How to Make a Sand Pail Cake!

Some of you wanted to know more about this sand pail cake so:

This is the easiest thing in the world, kids love it and it would be great for a "beach themed" party. I got this idea on one of those BYU TV shows.

One cake mix baked- I just do a 9x13, chocolate (what else is there?!)
Bucket of Ice Cream- we usually use Neopolitan, I'm not sure why, but it really tastes good in it.
Box of Graham cracker crumbs
One new and washed sand pail
Don't worry about the cake cracking on this one, just start chunking it in the bucket- a layer of cake chunks, a layer of ice cream, a layer of cake chunks, a layer of ice cream until its full and then just pour on the graham cracker crumbs to look like sand!
We seriously had some girls a little weirded out because they thought I was feeding them sand. Even after I confessed it was just cake and ice cream!
If you could find candies that look like sea shells to put on it, it would be even better!
Then, just use the handy shovel that came with the pail and scoop it out onto plates!

Sail Away Party

Jack made a boat out of an old piece of wood he found. We have a little irrigation canal at the end of our "dead end" street. After Rebekah's party, we all walked down to watch him let it "sail away".
He had so much fun and was so proud that it floated!

He only had to help it along a little!

Rebekah's Birthday

Rebekah turned 5 on May 19th. We had a little party for her and some friends. It was so HOT that day, but they still managed to have some fun. Her cake was a sandpail cake, a suprise (she really thought I had just stuck candles in a bucket of sand!).

Katie helped out with the party games and had all the girls giggling. This was her 1st party that wasn't just a "family" party. I hope she liked it!

(Some version of "freeze dance" that Katie made up)

After everyone went home, she finished off the cake! (Really, there wasn't much left.)

Wii Fit

We just got Wii Fit this weekend. We are LOVING it. The kids are having a ball, and so are Scott and I. The variety of ways to workout and the amount of fun they are is amazing. From Yoga to jogging on a trail next to a waterfall to strength training with a personal trainer, its a ball!

Today was Rebekah's 1st field trip! She goes to Red Apple Preschool. We went to the zoo AND Funland. It was LONG. Livvie and I joined her, and Scott even met us at the zoo. It was so CROWDED! I think every school in the state was on their field trip at the same time.
We had a sack lunch picnic and the girls got to ride 3 rides each. They loved it.
I can't believe my little Bekah is going to be in KINDERGARTEN next year!

Somehow, We Are Coaching Baseball!

Well, I was roped into coaching baseball for Jack's team this summer. Funny, I distinctly remember checking the box that said "no, I am not willing to help coach or assist"!
I have so much on my plate already.
Then, I get this phone call that said that none of the parents for our team can. I am such a sucker. So, I am coach, and Scott agreed to be my assistant coach.
Its only for a month, but it will be a busy one. Monday and Wednesday games, with Tuesday practices.
We let Jack pick the team name. He chose our state bird- "The Rocky Mountain Bluebirds"! I love that my 1st grader even knows the state bird. :)
A kid down the street is on the team, and incidentally his mom is coaching Rebekah's Tee ball team. Fun Fun Fun.
(The pic is JC last year needing a hair cut on an extra hot day!)

A visit from the Tooth Fairy!

Jack FINALLY lost his 1st tooth! He will be 8 in October, so he had been waiting for quite a while! He lost it in P.E. in a totally unrelated incident from the black eye.
The black eye came from a kid in his class who hit him in the head with "a kind of foamy bowling pin" while they were "just playing around"!
Anyway, he was quite thrilled to finally, finally be able to put a tooth under his pillow. Although, he wonders at the reality of the tooth fairy. He has a friend at school whose parents like to tell him dirty rumors about other parents being "dishonest" with their children about Santa, The Easter Bunny, The Tooth Fairy, ect..... Why do people do this???

It is going to be sunny and 65 degrees tomorrow! We are going to work outside on getting the garden planting ready, do some landscaping work, maybe a swingset too. We'll see about that one. I am just so happy that we can go outside!!!

Taekwondo was a success. Jack is an official orange belt. He was very understanding of me going to Katie's soccer game. He did his whole thing for me at home last night, complete with me "re-presenting" him with his belt in a made up home ceremony. Love that boy.

Katie's soccer game was less victorious. Her team seems to be comprised of girls that are almost as passive as Katie. I love this trait about her generally, she is so very kind, compassionate, etc... but in sports, you need to get after the ball!! I remind her that they all have shin guards, and to kick away, but she says, "I don't want to be mean, mom."

I'll get the picture of them in uniform on here soon! Patience!

Its May 1st and we got INCHES of SNOW last night and this morning!!! I really need some SPRING!!
Last week Katie's soccer game was cancelled because of snow. Well, time for another game, and it could be, should be cancelled again because of SNOW! If they don't cancel, how fun to stand outside in the 40 degrees to watch the game!
A side note-at the same time Katie's game starts, Jack has his 1st testing for Tae Kwon Do to move up to orange belt. What's a mom to do? I want to be at both events, of course.
Tomorrow is the girls' choir concert- at the same time Jack has Tae Kwon Do class. I think we'll make him miss, to be there for his sisters.
Just kidding, here's to hoping I'll get to see my tulips this year!
